Tidy up Your Closet

Last night, I looked inside my closet to find my black vintage belt, for hours. I forgot where I put it and I started to take everything out of my closet. In the end, I found it in the corner of closet, below my long dresses, covered by a dust bag, in circle. No wonder why I haven't seen it... may be for years? And it seemed more vintage than usual, too.

Looking back at piles of clothes I threw on my bed, I got a short migrain. There were a massive parade of colors and fabrics that I haven't realised before. I didn't understand how come my closet patiently accommodated a mess like this? Well, I love them, my lovely clothes, but how about keeping them neat in a small closet? How to find things easier, rather than throwing everything out only to find an accessories like a belt?

Have you been in this situation before?

And..... I invented an idea to put them in subcategories. I know, you've categorized all of your clothes. The shirts, the tees, the shorts... Then what?

How about keeping them in subcategories, such as colors and length of sleeves?

For example, I have tons of tees in different shades. I fold them neatly and categorize them based on colors. Thus, there's a pile of white tees, pink tees, green tees, et cetera. To make it easier for small closet, colors that have similar shades are stacked in a pile. For me, neon colors such as lemon green, orange, yellow, and hot pink are in a pile. My red and white tees are each in a pile because there are many of them. Black and grey tees are in same pile. You can make your piles based on your condition. If you have pink tees as many as a department store's supply, you should put them in a pile (or categorize them based on shades... it's up to you).

I found this way helpful when we need to find a specific color easier. For example, if I need a white tee as dress code for my workshop, I will find and pick the tee faster because they are in a pile. Moreover, I can compare them faster than keep searching for my favorite tee while my hands holding other tee. Gah, frustrating!

And how about the hanging area? I love to sub categorize them based on their length. They will make a beautiful stairs in your closet. I used to arrange them from long dresses to short sleeves shirts. Furthermore, the space in your closet will be slightly bigger because you can store your shoes (or shoulder bags) below the area of short sleeves shirts.

And how about accessories?
You can hang them inside the door of the closet for long ones, such as belts and scarfs. They don't need a really wide space, except you collect tons of them.

May be the best advice to tidy up your closet is to stop shopping (hahahaha...). Well, do you remember how tempting the plaid skirts that waving itself to you when you're passing it in department store? That's the alarm that your closet will be fuller and fuller and... perhaps you need to pass some old clothes to be donated or given to specific person.

Lately, I found a cheaper way for your closet to stay up to date without shop a whole season outfits in stores. You can make it yourself. That's why it's called Do It Yourself.

I will leak it next day. Well, now, look at your closet and let's see what you can do. Hope it help.

XOXO,
Elizabeth
