It's been the second month in the process of writing you. It was quite interesting at the first week and the moment when I had my first note about revision was "amazing". Been here for two months started frustrating me, especially when the progress seemed slower and slower.
It reminds me of The Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility. If you consume a product in a routine pattern, the interest of the product will decrease gradually. It happens in reality, especially when we're talking about you, dear thesis. I'm entering the phase when every time I'm opening my laptop, I always feel an urge to shut it down.
The main problem here is the tendency of getting the thesis be done immediately. I want it to be done as soon as possible, but it's quite impossible when I'm looking at my agenda. Sometimes, I want to delete all of activities written there and filling it with a large "THESIS" word across the hours.
That's also impossible.
Trying to be more organized has been a struggle for me, Yes, I made agendas, but the time seemed never be enough for me.
I understand I have the problem of efficiency. I'm 100% effective, I can achieve what I want to and I know clearly what I have to do. But, the efficiency of doing them... Well... I confess my weakest weakness...
Probably that's the most powerful barrier. I made myself work inefficiently.
The moment I asked Google "How to Work Efficiently?", I knew I was pretty desperate about myself.
Thus, I hit Forbes' tips. Here are ten tips I found...
10 Easy Ways To Be More Productive At Work
- Understand your body's timetable. Setting up the most intense work when your energy is in the highest level, such as in the morning after resting and eating will help much. Maybe thesis should be categorized in this part of time.
- Prioritize Prioritizing. Prioritizing is the hardest part. Thus, doing it in the freshest moment in your week and every single day is as important as finishing them all.
- Establising Routines. Our brains are wired to be very good at executing patterns. Establishing routines around the way you carry out regular tasks makes you more efficient and productive.
- Batch together similar tasks. Doing a group of similar activity in one time helps our brain to work effectively.
- Take breaks. Complex tasks, like writing or strategizing, take a lot of mental effort, and your brain can only focus for a limited amount of time. That means it's critical to take breaks and let your brain rest. Take a walk or socialize for a bit. Then when you get back to work, you're energized again.
- Create a Five Minutes List. Make a to do list consists of things you can do in five minutes. These activities can be done when your energy starts declining and you can do some low-intense things to keep your day efficient.
- Don't Multitask. Writing thesis and messaging in the same time must be a bad idea. Better leave this habit start from now on. Nothing gets your full attention and you're more likely to forget things
- Do a Daily Brain Dump. When ideas start to pop uncontrollably in the middle of stressful work, write them all on papers and leave it for later. Connect the dot in the night when you've finished all of mandatory work that day.
- Make routines become fun. Play the music on or try new environment.
- Use High Performance Procrastination. Believe it or not, procrastination is not always the enemy of productivity. It sends an important signal. If you're procrastinating, ask yourself why. Is the idea not yet fully formed? Is the task even worth completing at all? Is the project out of alignment with your goals or skills? Use the information to cull your to-do list and focus on what's really important.
I will start these tips tomorrow, starting from sleep early tonight and getting up earlier on the next day. Hope it help and work well.
